In this text, we present data activism practices against feminicide in Brazil, highlighting the collaborative project Data Against Feminicide and the work of feminist organizations that produce, monitor, and use data to combat lethal gender-related violence. In response to state neglect and the lack of reliable official data, these initiatives work to make feminicide visible and ensure its accurate classification. In Brazil, the Data Against Feminicide project, in partnership with Lupa Feminista, GT FEM Bahia, Fórum Cearense de Mulheres, Néias Observatório de Feminicídios de Londrina, and the Laboratório de Estudos de Feminicídio (LESFEM), collaboratively developed two technologies: a data annotation tool and an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based news alert platform to support activists’ work. The technological tools presented do not replace activist labor, but they strengthen it, demonstrating that technologies can be developed according to feminist and collective principles to confront feminicide in Brazil and beyond.
