One of the main objectives of Data Against Feminicide is to foster an international community of practice around feminicide data. A community of practice is a “group of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly” (Wenger). We consider all individuals and groups who work or want to work with feminicide data to belong to this community, and our goal has been to create spaces for interaction, to share learning and experiences.
The first gathering of the feminicide data community, with more than 500 people registered to participate, took place in 2020. Since then, we have held annual meetings every November, in commemoration of the International Day to End Violence against Women (November 25). These community events are open, free, and include simultaneous interpretation between Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

November 2020:
Data Against Feminicide
This series of sessions was designed to bring together activists and civil society organizations, public officials, academics, and journalists who work or want to work with feminicide data. Over three weeks, two webinars, three workshops, and an interactive session were held to learn and think collectively, and to recognize each other as members of the feminicide data community of practice.
November 2021:
Technology in Action
This conversation opened a space for various civil society organizations to share their experiences and work with feminicide data . The speakers came from organizations that participated in the development of the DCF tools. The provocation was: Can algorithms help in the struggle against feminicide?
November 2022:
Visibilities: art and data on feminicide
This gathering featured two panel discussions. The first was More than Numbers: Voices of Families of Feminicide Victims, organized with Red Interamericana Anti-Femicidio (RIAF) and Coodinadora 19 de abril de Chile. The second panel centred on Data and Artistic Practices in the Fight Against Feminicide. In addition, artists Marby Blanco and Alejandra García and the No Estamos Todas collective led two workshops to work with feminicide data.
November 2023:
Strategic Datafication
This gathering provided a space for reflection and dialogue on both the strategic uses and limitations of data in the fight against feminicide . Recognizing its importance, the objective was to explore the intersection between the struggle against feminicide and the relevance of data in this area.
November 2024:
Media against Feminicide – Narratives, Challenges, and Responsibility
During this meeting, we explored the role of media coverage of feminicide to make visible and denounce gender-related violence. In addition to the discussion, together with DISCO Lab we offered a workshop on data annotation to develop artificial intelligence.
Community Directory
To facilitate exchanges among community members beyond DCF events, each meeting enabled collaborative editing of a directory where participants can add their projects and find other individuals or groups working with feminicide data.
