This issue has serious repercussions, both for the awareness of the population and for the design of public policies and the actions of civil society in the face of the phenomenon. This paper examines the importance and complexities of having official and unofficial data on violent deaths of women due to gender. Based on studies about public information and official documents, the article introduces a brief review of the data available from state sources, pointing out some gaps, weaknesses, and strengths. It concludes with recommendations on the registration of official data and future lines of research.
